Garrett McGannon
President & Chairman of the Board
Garrett McGannon serves as President and Chairman of the Boulder Council for International Visitors (BCIV), where he leads with purpose, energy, and a commitment to connecting people across borders. With a background in international affairs and political science, Garrett has helped shape BCIV into a more agile, visible, and impactful nonprofit—one that plays a vital role in citizen diplomacy through partnerships with the U.S. State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP).

From his start as a BCIV intern to now steering the board’s strategic direction, Garrett works hand-in-hand with the Executive Director to grow the organization’s reach, develop funding strategies, and ensure each visiting delegation experiences the best of what Boulder has to offer. He thrives at the intersection of diplomacy, community engagement, and creative problem-solving—bringing together leaders, educators, nonprofits, and local changemakers to spark conversations that matter.

Garrett is a champion of BCIV’s mission to foster “Collaboration Without Borders,” believing that true diplomacy happens not just in policy rooms but around dinner tables, in classrooms, and within communities.

Outside of BCIV, Garrett is deeply rooted in his Colorado community. He’s a former student body president, a proud CU Boulder alum, and a passionate advocate for public service and social equity. He’s also a huge sports fan (especially the Nuggets and Avs), an avid traveler, a Spanish speaker, and someone who believes in the power of a good happy hour with great friends. Garrett brings the same sincerity and charisma to his personal life that he does to his work—balancing sharp strategic thinking with a genuine love of people and connection.
